Holy Foolishness
“Joy isn't always a feeling… sometimes, it's a battle.”
Sit with it
It is easy to talk to God when you are already happy. When sadness settles in, even a few words feel impossible. Rabbi Nachman taught that you have to push yourself to be joyful, especially when you pray.
Sometimes it takes a touch of foolishness: a dance, a smile, a laugh for no reason at all. Something deep inside begins to heal, and the heart that felt too heavy to pray opens again.
Next time the words won't come, don't wait for the mood. Stand up, do something a little silly, and then try again.
